How is a Root Canal Performed?

Root canals have had a bad reputation in the past. However, thanks to new technology here at All Coast Dental in Pacific Beach, CA, root canals are now usually no more uncomfortable than a filling. It also helps to know the process to make yourself a little more comfortable!

Rotary endodontics is to thank for quicker, quieter, and more comfortable root canal procedures. We now use electric drills with a flexible file. This makes the process quicker and it also does not stretch or damage the root canal like manual files of the past sometimes did.

To begin a root canal procedure, you dentist will drill an access hole in your tooth to reach the center of the tooth. The inside of the tooth and the root canal will be cleaned out of any decayed tissue and debris. A sealant is then placed inside the tooth to fill the now-empty space. When finished, a filling is placed onto the access hole and the process is complete.

A root canal is needed when the inside of the tooth becomes infected. Signs of infection include pain when chewing or not, sensitivity, red gums, and a dark spot on the tooth. Make sure to schedule an appointment with your dentist if you experience any of these symptoms consistently.

A root canal is not as scary as once thought. Many patients claim it feels no different than having a cavity filled. To schedule an examination with All Coast Dental in Pacific Beach, CA, call our office at (858) 270-4904 or visit our website, www.allcoastdental.net

Veneers for a Beautiful Smile

Desiring a big, beautiful smile is a common thing among our patients! This is why here at All Coast Dental in Pacific Beach, CA, we offer veneers to our patients! Veneers are able to almost instantly transform a smile.

Veneers are thin, ceramic shells that are bonded to the front of your existing teeth. They are able to improve the look of dental imperfections that make you self-conscious about your smile. If you have gaps, cracks, chips, discolored teeth, misshapen teeth or another aesthetic issue you are unhappy with, veneers can be placed to give you a brand-new smile!

Your teeth are prepared for veneers so they have a tight and strong bond. Your dentist will take a small amount of enamel off of each tooth. The amount of enamel is equivalent to the thickness of the veneer that will take its place. Impressions will then be taken of your smile so that a dental laboratory can create a completely customized set of veneers for you. You will wear a temporary set while they are being created, and when they are ready, they are bonded into place. Dental veneers are long-lasting and stain-resistant, so you can enjoy a bright smile for a long time!

If you are hiding your smile due to a dental imperfection, it is time to learn more about veneers! To schedule a consultation with All Coast Dental of Pacific Beach, CA, call our office at (858) 270-4904 or visit our website, www.allcoastdental.net

ClearCorrect for Discreet Teeth Straightening

Many patients desire a straightened smile but do not want to wear traditional metal braces. For our patients in our Pacific Beach, CA office, we offer ClearCorrect to straighten their smile. A smile you are proud of often goes hand-in-hand with self-confidence!

ClearCorrect is the discreet and more comfortable way of straightening teeth. The straightening process consists of removable, clear plastic aligner trays that gradually move your teeth into the right direction. The plastic is smooth, so it does not bother cheeks and gums like traditional metal braces do. They are also removable, so you can brush and floss your teeth regularly, and continue to eat whatever food you like. You take the aligners out to brush, floss, and eat, but wear them the rest of the day and night. It is recommended you wear them for at least twenty-two hours per day.

The aligners are switched out with new slightly different aligners every couple of weeks. These aligners are created from molds of your teeth to create a gradual shifting plan. Depending on the complexity of your case, ClearCorrect may be worn for as short of a time period of a few months or up to a few years.

If you are interested in a beautifully straightened smile but do not want to wear irritating and unsightly metal braces, fear no more! ClearCorrect may be the solution. Oral Cancer Screenings

The best kind of protection is prevention. In the case of oral care, the best defense against oral cancer is early detection. This is why here at All Coast Dental, we are able to perform oral cancer screenings in our Pacific Beach, CA office.

Catching an abnormality as soon as possible means that a diagnosis can be made quicker and treatment can begin sooner. Our technology is able to detect abnormalities like sores, patches, or lumps before the human eye is able to detect them. Early detection greatly increases the chance of survival.

An ultraviolet light is used to examine the oral cavity and the throat. If there are any abnormalities, the patient would then need testing completed to determine the cause of the lesion.

Anyone can have an oral cancer screening performed, but those with a higher risk of cancer should be sure to get routine screenings. Those who are a higher risk of oral cancer include those who use tobacco regularly, drink alcohol regularly, have excessive sun exposure to the lips, or those who have the human papillomavirus.

Early detection could save a life. Mention our oral cancer screenings when setting up your next appointment. To schedule an appointment here at All Coast Dental in Pacific Beach, CA, give us a call at (858) 270-4904 or visit our website, www.allcoastdental.net.

Dental Implants- Lifelong Tooth Replacement

Dental implants are the best option for tooth replacement when you want a full replacement that will not need to be replaced again in the future. It is for this reason that we offer dental implants to our patients here at All Coast Dental in Pacific Beach, CA. Dental implants work great for patients who are missing one or more teeth.

It is important to replace missing teeth to retain the positions of your other teeth, keep proper shape of your jaw and face, and continue normal use of your teeth. There are options for replacement like bridges or dentures, but they need to be replaced again eventually. Plus, implants are a single-tooth replacement, so there is no reducing other teeth to place them.

Dental implants are strong and steady, so you will not have to worry about them moving around or needing to take them out. With good care, dental implants are able to last a lifetime.

If you are missing one or more teeth and want a lifelong replacement, dental implants may be the perfect option for you. To schedule an appointment with All Coast Dental in our Pacific Beach, CA office, give us a call at (858) 270-4904 or visit our website, www.allcoastdental.net
