Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are the third and final set of molars on each side of the upper and lower jaws that erupt between the ages of 17-22. When wisdom teeth don’t erupt, this may be due to a patient being born without them or because they are impacted. Impacted wisdom teeth occur when they don’t have enough room in the mouth to grow. When this happens, our doctors at All Coast Dental may suggest extraction.

Impacted wisdom teeth pose a risk of infection and can cause frequent headaches if they are pressing against a nerve in the neck. Impacted wisdom teeth don’t always show symptoms, however, which is why it’s important to visit our office twice a year for X-rays and maintenance. Impacted wisdom teeth that are left untreated can lead to periodontal disease and tooth decay and may cause damage to surrounding teeth. If our doctors suggest extraction, it is promised that you will be made comfortable every step of the way.
